Book Review: How AI Changed My Life — My Journey Through Cancer, Recovery, and Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence and Healing: A Personal Journey Through Cancer

In 2023, my life changed forever.

What started as a quiet medical concern quickly erupted into one of the most difficult and emotional chapters of my life. I was diagnosed with cancer, and suddenly, the world I knew vanished. Everything around me shifted—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Fear became a part of my daily routine. Endless doctor visits, medical tests, harsh medications, exhausting treatments, and a pervasive sense of uncertainty took over my existence.

When you receive a diagnosis like that, you enter a state of vulnerability that is hard to describe. You are scared, you are tired, and you just want someone to fix you.

Like many patients, I placed my absolute trust in the medical system. I trusted every prescription, every dosage, and every medical decision without question. We are conditioned to believe that the experts always get it right. But during my treatment journey, I was given the wrong drug. That single, critical error opened my eyes to a stark reality: how incredibly important knowledge, understanding, and personal advocacy truly are when it comes to our own healthcare.

The Breaking Point

Almost immediately after receiving the incorrect medication, I began experiencing severe side effects. I felt a crushing weakness, deep confusion, profound exhaustion, and a host of physical symptoms that I knew in my gut did not feel “normal.”

When you are undergoing cancer treatment, people expect you to feel sick. But deep inside, my intuition was screaming that something was fundamentally wrong. My body was reacting in ways that went beyond the expected toll of chemotherapy or standard treatments.

Instead of accepting the suffering in silence, I started researching. I dove into my medications, my diagnoses, my treatment options, and the specific side effects of the drugs I was being given, desperately trying to understand what was happening to my own body.

That desperate search led me to artificial intelligence.

Discovering AI as a Lifeline

Around that same time, the public explosion of AI tools like ChatGPT was happening. What began as simple late-night curiosity—typing my symptoms and drug names into a chat box—quickly became life-changing.

I didn’t use AI to diagnose myself. Rather, AI helped me understand complicated medical terminology in plain, accessible language. When I looked at my lab reports and doctor’s notes, it was like reading a foreign language. AI acted as my personal translator. It helped me organize information, study my treatment options, compare my specific symptoms against medical literature, and better understand the mechanics of my own healthcare journey.

For the first time since my diagnosis, I felt informed. I felt empowered.

I took the information I had gathered—simplified and explained by AI—and brought it to my medical team. The evidence was clear: the drug I had been given was causing an adverse reaction that was compounding my suffering. Once the error was addressed and the medication was changed, my body finally began to respond the way it should have from the start.

The Irreplaceable Human Element

It is crucial to state this clearly: AI did not replace my doctors or nurses—and I do not believe it ever will.

Doctors, nurses, caregivers, and healthcare professionals are irreplaceable. They bring human experience, emotional understanding, deep compassion, and nuanced medical expertise that technology alone can never replicate. A machine cannot hold your hand before a scary procedure. A machine cannot look into your eyes and offer the comfort of human empathy.

But AI can become one of the greatest support systems in healthcare history. To truly understand its potential, we have to look past the fear of automation and see what it can do for the everyday patient:

  • AI can help patients better understand their health: It translates complex, intimidating medical jargon into language that a frightened patient can actually comprehend.
  • AI can help people ask better questions: Instead of nodding blankly during a short appointment, patients can arrive with targeted, informed questions about their own care.
  • AI can help identify risks earlier: By helping patients track and cross-reference their symptoms accurately, AI can highlight warning signs that might otherwise be missed.
  • AI can help improve recovery and awareness: It can assist in creating tailored lifestyle, nutrition, and recovery plans that keep patients engaged in their own healing.
  • And in the future, AI may help detect diseases like cancer at Stage Zero—before symptoms even begin. Imagine a world where AI algorithms, working alongside radiologists, catch microscopic anomalies years before they become life-threatening.

That is why I believe AI will not only transform industries; it will save lives.

Shifting the Public Narrative

Today, as someone who has survived cancer and built a career in this space, I speak at conferences and events around the world. Inevitably, one of the most common questions I get from the audience is

“Is AI going to take over our jobs?”

My answer almost always surprises people.

I tell them that while AI will certainly change jobs, disrupt industries, and force us to adapt, I believe one of the single biggest impacts of artificial intelligence will be saving human lives. AI will help doctors detect diseases earlier, improve medical research, accelerate drug discovery, personalize healthcare to an individual’s specific genetics, and provide people with unprecedented knowledge about their own bodies.

The future of AI is not only about automation. It is about human empowerment.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

During my own recovery journey, AI became more than just a clinical research tool. It became a source of motivation, creativity, continuous learning, and hope. Instead of allowing fear, anger, and illness to consume me, I focused my remaining energy on building something deeply meaningful.

I began creating AI-focused publications, educational platforms, interviews, media networks, reports, podcasts, and digital content. My goal was simple but ambitious: to help everyday people learn about artificial intelligence and understand how it could shape their futures.

What started as my personal, desperate search for answers evolved into a global mission to educate and inspire others.

Today, those publications and media platforms help people around the world learn about AI, healthcare innovation, business transformation, creativity, and the future of technology. I have realized that many of the people following this journey are not programmers, data scientists, or engineers. They are ordinary people—teachers, small business owners, parents, and students—who simply want to understand the future and how AI may impact their lives, their health, and their livelihoods.

A Second Chance at Life

Since then, I am incredibly proud and humbled to say that I am cancer-free.

That experience gave me a second chance at life and fundamentally changed my perspective forever. I no longer see technology as something cold, distant, or threatening. I see it as a tool that can empower humanity when used responsibly, ethically, and with deep compassion.

My journey taught me that knowledge can be powerful medicine. It taught me that asking questions matters. It taught me that innovation can create hope in the darkest of places. And it taught me that even when you feel entirely powerless, purpose can still emerge from your pain.

Sharing the Story: How AI Saved My Life

This is why I decided to write a book about my full journey. It details everything—from the terrifying cancer diagnosis and the harrowing medical challenges, to the grueling recovery process, discovering AI, and ultimately building educational media platforms focused on the future of technology.

I want this story to help others who may feel overwhelmed, afraid, or uncertain about the future—whether that future is tied to a health crisis or the rapidly changing technological landscape.

I want people to understand that AI is not only about machines, automation, or replacing jobs. When placed in the hands of everyday people, AI can become one of the greatest educational and healthcare tools humanity has ever created.

My upcoming book, How AI Saved My Life, shares this deeply personal story and the practical lessons I learned along the way. I hope it inspires people to embrace learning, to never stop asking questions, to stay hopeful in the face of adversity, and to understand that technology—when combined with human compassion—can help improve lives around the world.

The book should be published soon. For me, it represents much more than just a personal memoir.

It represents survival. Transformation. Innovation. And hope for the future of humanity.

Final Note:

I believe artificial intelligence will soon play a major role in detecting cancer at stage zero, before symptoms even appear, transforming the future of healthcare and saving millions of lives. AI is already helping doctors improve early detection, accelerate research, and deliver more personalized treatments. Companies such as OpenEvidence, Chai Discovery, and Natera are advancing the use of AI in healthcare, diagnostics, and precision medicine. Their innovations represent a powerful step toward a future where diseases like cancer can be identified earlier, treated faster, and managed more effectively through intelligent technology.
